Publication Ethics

The Journal of Data Science and Education (JDSEDU) is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics and takes all possible measures against publication malpractice. This statement is based on the guidelines and best practices of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

All parties involved in the publication process—authors, editors, reviewers, and the publisher—are expected to adhere to ethical principles as outlined below.

 

1. Ethical Responsibilities of Authors

Authors submitting to JDSEDU must ensure that:

  • Originality and Plagiarism: Manuscripts are entirely original. Any use of others’ work must be properly cited. Plagiarism in any form is unacceptable.
  • Multiple or Concurrent Publication: Authors must not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.
  • Data Integrity: Data must be accurate, valid, and not fabricated or manipulated. Authors should be prepared to provide raw data if requested.
  • Authorship Criteria: All listed authors must have made significant contributions to the research and approved the final manuscript.
  • Disclosure of Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or non-financial conflicts that could influence the results or interpretation.
  • Ethical Approval: Research involving human participants or sensitive data must have appropriate ethical clearance.

 

2. Ethical Responsibilities of Editors

Editors of JDSEDU are responsible for:

  • Publication Decisions: Deciding which articles to publish based on scholarly merit, originality, and relevance to the journal scope.
  • Fair Evaluation: Evaluating manuscripts without discrimination based on race, gender, institutional affiliation, or nationality.
  • Confidentiality: Maintaining the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts.
  • Conflict of Interest: Avoiding handling manuscripts where conflicts of interest exist.
  • Integrity of the Record: Taking appropriate action in cases of suspected misconduct, including retractions or corrections.

 

3. Ethical Responsibilities of Reviewers

Reviewers play a crucial role in maintaining publication quality and must:

  • Confidentiality: Treat all manuscripts as confidential documents.
  • Objectivity: Provide constructive and unbiased feedback.
  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Identify relevant published work not cited by the authors.
  • Timeliness: Complete reviews within the agreed timeframe.
  • Conflict of Interest: Decline reviews where conflicts exist.

 

4. Publication Misconduct

JDSEDU does not tolerate any form of publication misconduct, including:

  • Plagiarism
  • Data fabrication or falsification
  • Citation manipulation
  • Improper authorship attribution

If misconduct is suspected, the journal will follow COPE guidelines in investigating and resolving the issue.

5. Corrections, Retractions, and Withdrawals

  • Corrections: Issued when minor errors are identified.
  • Retractions: Applied in cases of serious ethical violations or invalid findings.
  • Withdrawals: Allowed under justified conditions before publication.

All actions will be carried out transparently to maintain the integrity of the academic record.
